A short film, photos and words by Creator & Innovator Jack Coleman
Featuring Derrick Disney and Bryce Young

Our first stop was the Pacific side of Costa Rica during its offseason, you see, less people. The plan was to stay as long as 40 days, figured in that time, we could get some waves to ourselves. Our plan was a shot in the dark. But, deep down I knew that we would end up on the Caribbean’s Mosquito Coast if the Pacific side had run its course. After what seemed like countless days of relentless rain on a severely saturated Pacific touching peninsula, we got hungry for sun. Mold started to become an issue with belongings and equipment. The tropical temperatures played havoc with our electronics, it was time to go. It had been 18 days on the Pacific; we made the move after connecting with a couple beautiful offseason swells. Unlike the Pacific side - the Caribbean was in peak season - and we knew it. Upon arrival our expectations were exceeded from the world-class surf and true Caribbean hospitality. The coast was an exuberant Rastafarian jungle paradise, rich with vibrations of cultural energy. We had 20 days to kill, so we embedded. From the Caribbean, we were set to a stop in California, then a drive into Mexico. All together, a 7-week film trip. The waves on the Caribbean never let up - and we were blown out by the end of our stay - 2 weeks straight of Caribbean fire can do that to a man. Our flight home we were greeted by vintage California winter gold - with some of the best conditions in recent memory - but it was time to go into Mexico. Baja was our gem, our sanctuary, where we would decompress from our long journey. This, our final stop, would be our best. After days of what seemed like endless surf, the smell of the crisp desert landscape helped to guide us home as we thought back to all that we had accomplished. After every long adventure you can come back a new person, someone that is changed forever, with a simple thread of surfing intertwining it all together along the way.
