Vissla Cosmic Hermosa 2019 Recap

We brought the Pura Vissla spirit back to Playa Hermosa last weekend for the 5th annual Vissla Cosmic Hermosa surf festival. With sunshine and wind that thankfully stayed light all day, Cosmic provided a bounty of fun to be had over the weekend.

In true vintage contest fashion, as in the days before swell forecasts and leashes, contestants showed up with single and twin fins and had to deal with the conditions the ocean delivered. The surf gods were definitely feeling feisty for this year's event, challenging competitors with fast and powerful 6-8' sets – strong currents, heavy paddle outs and big wipeouts were had, but as were some pretty epic rides if you were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. Despite the challenging conditions, Pros charged through and put on a great show for those beachside bystanders. With style and power that stoodout throughout the whole competition, Tomas King took the win of this years Cosmic.

In traditional Cosmic style, competitors and fans re-grouped and gathered at the Green Room in Jaco for the Costa Rican premiere of Vissla's latest film "Rolling Review," and a live performance by the rock band Voodoo. And to close the weekend appropriately, we returned to the sand for a beach cleanup with The Clean Wave to help minimize our impact on the local environment.

Vissla is grateful for the support of Mango Surf Shop, Vida Hermosa Restaurant, the Green Room Cafe, Gallo Pinto TV and The Clean Wave, who all partnered with us to make this another unforgettable event. We can't wait to see everyone again next year! Pura Vissla.
